1877: BIRTH of DAUGHTER LULU NEVADA GUTHRIE
Lulu was born on 2 December 1877 in Jackson, Allen County, Ohio. She married Elmer Roberts in 1899. They moved to Lafayette, Allen, Ohio and later to Lima, Allen, Ohio. 1 son and 3 daughters. Lulu died in 1954 and Elmer in 1961.

1879: BIRTH of SON JOSEPH LEATHERMAN GUTHRIE
Joseph Leatherman Guthrie was born on 16 March 1879 in Jackson, Allen, Ohio. He married first to Lenna Della Baker on 7 November 1901. They had 1 son and 2 daughters. They lived in Paulding, Paulding, Ohio. Lenna died on 1 April 1911 in Waring, Texas. Joseph remarried on 31 Dec 1912 in Nashville, Tennessee to Elsie Rosetta Teagarden. They had 2 sons and 2 daughters. Among these was Ellis Gerald Guthrie, the father of our DNA participant Ellis Joel Guthrie. The family lived in Jackson, Allen County, Ohio. Joseph died there 23 Oct 1947. Elsie survived him, passing away at the age of 100 in 1986.

1880: BIRTH of SON JAMES GUTHRIE
James Guthrie was born in May 1880. He was enumerated as a 1 month old in his father's household on 14 June 1880 in Jackson, Allen, Ohio. His middle initial is listed, but interpreted by the transcriber as a "W". There is no 1890 census for comparison. By 1900, at the age of 19, James was no longer living with his parents, either because he was dead by that date or because he was living outside the household. There is no James Guthrie listed for Allen County, Ohio in 1900. Various family files show his full name as James Allen Guthrie with the exact birth date of 17 May 1880. A WWI Draft Registration Card (1917-1918) for James Allen Guthrie lists his closest relative as Gertrude Guthrie, presumably his wife. His occupation was that of a minister and farmer. The copy is blurry, but I believe it lists their permanent address in Spencersville, Allen, Ohio and his employment address in Mercer, Ohio. The death date for James is given in the family files as 15 Aug 1969. There is currently no representative of James' line in the DNA project. This is especially important for James' descendants as there is a gap in the paper record proving his connection to these parents.

1883: BIRTH of SON JACOB HAWK GUTHRIE
Jacob was born 13 Dec 1883 in Jackson, Allen County, Ohio. He married Olive Rosetta 'Etta' Deringer on 19 Sep 1908 in Kenton, Hardin County, Ohio. Two known children: 1 son and 1 daughter. They were living in Jackson, Allen, Ohio in 1917 when Jacob filled out his WWI Draft Registration Card indicating that his occupation was that of a 'trackman' for the Pennsylvania RR Co. They were enumerated in Jackson, Allen County, Ohio for the 1920 census. His 1942 WWII Draft Registration Card indicates that Jacob was still working for the Railroad. Jacob died in 1948. There is no current participant in the DNA Project representing Jacob's direct line.

1886: BIRTH of DAUGHTER BESSIE LENORE GUTHRIE
Bessie was born on 24 March 1886 in Jackson, Allen County, Ohio. She never married, but remained at home on the family farm until her death in February 1973. The exact date of her death varies in records: 13, 14, or 15th.

1887: BIRTH of SON WILLIAM RICHARD GUTHRIE
Named after his father, William Richard Guthrie was born on 15 Nov 1887 in Jackson, Allen County, Ohio. He married Claudie V. Binkley on 24 Dec 1908. They had 1 son and 3 daughters. There is no current DNA Project participant representing this direct line. In 1917, William registered for the WWI Draft. The card indicates that he worked for the railroad and had lost one eye. His claim to a draft exemption was religious affiliation with the Church of the Brethren. William & his family moved to Ada, Hardin County, Ohio where they were listed in the 1930 census, but moved back to Allen County, Ohio by the 1940s. In 1942, William registered for the WWII Draft. He was then 54 years old and still working for the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. William died 9 Nov 1987 in Lafayette, Allen County, Ohio.

1889: BIRTH of SON JOHN HENRY P. GUTHRIE
John was born in Allen County, Ohio on 5 Feb 1889. He was living in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan in 1917 and working as a real estate salesman at Pilgrim Realty Co. when he registered for the WWI draft. The name on the card was written as 'John Henry P. Guthrie' and his signature as 'John P. Guthrie'. He indicates that his birthplace was Lafayette rather than Jackson in Allen, Ohio. John claimed his religious affiliation with the Church of the Brethren as as exemption to the draft.  He married Hazel Florence Eversole on 11 Jan 1907. They lived in Detroit, Michigan at least through 1930 when they were enumerated on the census there. John died at the age of 91 in 1980.

1891: BIRTH of SON CHARLES VARIAN GUTHRIE
Charles was born on 10 May 1891 in Jackson, Lafayette, Allen County, Ohio. He married Vera Gladys Hefner on 15 Sep 1909. They had 3 sons and 4 daughters. They were living in Jackson in 1917 when Charles filled out his WWI Draft Registration Card. He claimed to be self-employed as a farmer and cited 'support of family' as a draft exception. The family continued to live in Allen County through the documented 1930 census. He was still living there in 1942 when he completed his registration card for the WWII Draft. He was 51 at the time and still working as a farmer. Charles died in a long-term care facility in Allen County, Ohio on 6 July 1973. There are currently no participants in the DNA Project from Charles' direct line.
