William was only 14 months old when his father Andrew Guthrie died. He was raised by his mother, and later by his step-father Alexander Duff. William married Harriett Elvira Howell. They had 3 sons & 4 daughters. William died on 9 August 1928 in Tiffin, Defiance, Ohio.
