1862: BIRTH of MARY CATHERINE 'MINNIE HAMILTON

Minnie was born in Mercer County, Illinois on 22 May 1862, probably in Ohio Grove Township. At the time of the 1860 census, her parents and older siblings were living in "Township 13 N 3 W" in Mercer County, Illinois. The nearest postoffice was Sunbeam, which is located in Ohio Grove. 

1865: BIRTH of WILLIAM GRANT GUTHRIE

The Guthrie family was located in Whiteley, Greene, Pennsylvania in 1860 and emigrated to Mercer County, Illinois about 1863. They were probably living in the Oak Grove Township area when their second son, known as Grant, was born on 26 January 1865.

1889: BIRTH of SON, RAYMOND LEE GUTHRIE

The eldest son, Raymond Lee Guthrie, was born on 14 October in Oak Grove, Mercer, Illinois, USA. He married Edna Maud Fuller, the daughter of Elmer & Minnie Bell (Smith) Fuller. They had 1 daughter, Catherine. They were living in Davenport, Scott, Iowa for the 1930 census, but eventually must have moved back to Illinois. Raymond and Maud may have divorced. His obituary indicates that he married Evelyn Johnson in Woodstock on 3 July 1947. The US City Directory for Rockford, IL lists Raymond and Evelyn in the 1948, 1950, 1951 and 1952 directories. Raymond Guthrie died on 22 Sep 1956 in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois. Maud died 26 March 1974 in Iowa City, Allamakee, Iowa.

NOTE: There are 2 "Scandinavian" Cemeteries in Illinois. One is in Woodstock, McHenry County and the other in Rockford, Winnebago County. The Find-a-Grave site does not list any Guthrie memorials at this time. 

1891: BIRTH of SON, PAUL VERN GUTHRIE

Paul is the direct ancestor of DNA Project participant Bruce Hamilton Guthrie. Paul was born on 5 July 1891 in Ohio Grove, Mercer County, Illinois. During the 1900 and 1910 censuses, he was living with his parents in Sunbeam.

He was a soldier during WWI, a PFC in Battery B 123 Field Artillery Battalion.

During the 1920 census Paul was working as a farm laborer for the Parkinson family in Suez, Mercer, Illinois. Soon afterward, he married Beulah Rebecca Mitchell. They lived in Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois during the 1930 census when Paul was working for a Plow Company as a laborer and Beulah worked as a telephone operator.

In 1942, Paul completed his registration card for the WWII "Old Man's Draft". Their son, Albert Lee Guthrie (1921-2001), served in the South Pacific during WWII and in the Korean War. For his service as an artillery aerial observer, he was awarded the Air Medal with three oak clusters. He died 31 January 2001 in Illinois. His ashes were interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Section 8-N4 Row 16 Site 3.

Paul Vern Guthrie died on 7 July 1966 in Macomb, McDonough, Illinois. His wife Beulah survived him and passed away on 13 July 1991. They are buried at Good Hope Cemetery in Good Hope, McDonough County, Illinois.

  

1896: BIRTH of DAUGHTER, BERTHA M GUTHRIE

Bertha was born on 10 May 1895 in Ohio Grove, Mercer, Illinois. She lived in Ohio Grove and Aledo. No known marriage or children. She died in May of 1973.

Clara was born on 2 October 1900 in Ohio Grove, Mercer, Illinois. She also lived in Ohio Grove and Aledo. No known marriage or children. She died in October of 1985 in Aledo, Mercer, Illinois.

Minnie died on 17 April 1934 in Aledo, Mercer, Illinois. Burial location unknown. 

1942: DEATH of WILLIAM GRANT GUTHRIE 

Grant died on 26 April 1942 in Mercer County, Illinois. Burial location unknown
