The Highlights:

1779: BIRTH of ARCHIBALD GUTHERY
Archibald was born on 3 March 1779, only a few months before the death of his father, Archibald Guthery. It is unknown whether his participation as a soldier in the Continental Line prevented Archibald Sr from seeing his son.

His birth most likely took place in the township of Greene, which was then part of Washington County, Pennsylvania. Whitley township was a division of Greene Township formed in 1794. Greene County was formed from Washington in 1796.

1790: CENSUS of WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, USA
SOLOMON HOBBS HOUSEHOLD: 1M16+,2M<16, 3F
Solomon is Archibald's step-father, but the marriage date for Solomon & Rebecca is unknown. Archibald was only 11 in 1790 and would not be listed as a Head of Household. Rebecca is also not listed as a HOH in her own right. If Rebecca had remarried by 1790 to Solomon Hobbs, then Archibald & his 2 sisters could be reflected in the above numbers.

JACOB LEMLY HOUSEHOLD: 1M16+, 1M<16, 1F
The year prior to Elizabeth's birth, Jacob Lemley was enumerated in Washington County, Pennsylvania with his wife and 1M<16.

1791: BIRTH of ELIZABETH LEMLEY
The daughter of Jacob & Sarah (Morris) Lemley was born on 29 September 1791, reportedly in Greene, Washington, Pennsylvania.

1794: INCORPORATION of WHITELEY TOWNSHIP, WASHINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA, USA
Whitely & Dunkard Townships were formed from Greene Township, which at the time was a part of Washington County, Pennsylvnia.

1796: FORMATION of GREENE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, USA
Greene County was formed from Washington County, Pennsylvania

1800: CENSUS of GREENE, GREENE, PENNSYLVANIA, USA
Now 21, Archibald is still not listed as a HOH, suggesting that he was living with his mother and any unmarried sisters. Possibly in the household of Solomon Hobbs. Note that Solomon is still in Greene Township versus the newer township of Whiteley.

SOLOMON HOBBS HOUSEHOLD: 1M45+, 1M&1F 26-44, 1M16-25, 1M10-15.

1800: CENSUS of WHITELEY, GREENE, PENNSYLVANIA, USA
JACOB LEMLEY HOUSEHOLD:  1M&1F 26-44, 1F16-25, 1F10-15, 3M&1F<10
In 1800, Elizabeth was about 9 years old.

1806: MARRIAGE of ARCHIBALD GUTHERY & ELIZABETH LEMLEY
Either this date is an approximation or Elizabeth married at 15 years of age. LRG, p.377 indicates that Archibald "bought his father's farm and lived on it his entire life."

1810: BIRTH of SON, JACOB GUTHRIE
Named after his maternal grandfather, Jacob was born on 5 September 1810 in Whiteley, Greene, Pennsylvania. He married Lucinda Hobbs on 3 March 1833 in Whiteley. They had 7 sons & 4 daughters. Jacob & Lucinda moved to Ohio Grove, Mercer County, Illinois sometime between 1860-70. We now have a descendant of Jacob's in the DNA Project: BHG (DNA Results Pending)

1810:  CENSUS of WHITELEY, GREENE, PENNSYLVANIA, USA
ARCHY GUTHRY HOUSEHOLD: (The tickmarks in this record are difficult to read & may not represent the whole household.) 1M&1F 16-25, 1M 10-15, 1M&1F<10
In 1810, Archibald was about 31 years of age. Elizabeth was about 19. They only had 1 known child by 1810.

1813: BIRTH of DAUGHTER, SARAH GUTHRIE
Sarah was born in Whiteley, Greene, Pennsylvania on 10 Oct 1813. She married William W Leonard on 12 March 1833, just 8 days after her brother Jacob married Lucinda Hobbs. Sarah & William had several children. Sometime between 1860-70 they moved from Center, Greene, Pennsylvania to Coe, Isabella, Michigan. William died in 1875. Sarah lived with her son W.A. Leonard's family until her death on 2 March 1899.

1816: BIRTH of SON, SOLOMON GUTHRIE
Born on 7 April 1816, Solomon Guthrie was probably named after Archibald's step-father, Solomon Hobbs. Another sign that Solomon & Rebecca were married before 1820.  His bio is found here. Solomon married Elizabeth Fry, the daughter of George & Elizabeth (Beckingbaugh) Fry, on 31 Jan 1839. They were the parents of 10 children: 6 sons & 4 daughters. Solomon died on 2 December 1892, and Elizabeth two years later on 20 September 1894. There are currently no direct descendants of Solomon & Elizabeth in the DNA Project.

1818: BIRTH of SON, CEPHAS GUTHRIE
Cephas Guthrie was born on 10 September 1818, his full name probably being Josephus Franklin Guthrie. The alternate spelling Cephus combined with the use of the name Joseph during one census year suggests that it was a shortened version of the more formal given name Josephus. He married Sarah Scott in 1838, and they were the parents of 5 sons & 4 daughters. Sarah died on 7 October 1854, and Cephas remarried in 1855 to Mrs. Mazy Lemley, nee White. They had 2 daughters & 2 sons, including William Leisure Guthrie, the great-grandfather of DNA Project participant Jerry Hagan Guthrie. Mazy died on 6 May 1890 at the age of 63. Cephas died 18 Jan 1898.

1820: BIRTH of SON, SAMUEL GUTHRIE
Samuel was born on 18 Dec 1820 in Whiteley, Greene, Pennsylvania. His bio is found here. He was a farmer and stock grower. He married Nancy Patterson in 1840. They were the parents of 2 sons & 6 daughters. Nancy died on 18 April 1901. Samuel died 29 March 1903 in Perry, Greene, Pennsylvania, USA. There are currently no direct descendants of Samuel participating in the DNA Project.

1823: BIRTH of SON, EZEKIEL GUTHRIE
Ezekiel was born 4 Jan 1823 in Whiteley, Greene, Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Jane McClelland in 1864. They had 1 son & 1 daughter. The son, William F. Guthrie, may have died young. Ezekiel & Sarah continued to live in Whiteley until their deaths. Ezekiel died 3 Nov 1902, and Sarah 4 Aug 1914.

1825: BIRTH of DAUGHTER, CHARLOTTE GUTHRIE
Charlotte was born in Whiteley, Greene, Pennsylvania on 30 Jan 1825. She married Rinehart Bennett Church on 6 December 1842. They lived for a time in Perry, Monroe, Ohio before moving back to Center, Greene, Pennsylvania. Charlotte & Rinehart were the parents of several children. He died on 11 December 1882. Charlotte lived until 16 March 1911.

1827: BIRTH of SON, ARCHIBALD GUTHRIE
Named for his father, grandfather, and perhaps even his great-grandfather, Archibald Guthrie was born on 21 Feb 1827 in Whiteley, Greene, Pennsylvania, USA. He married the young widow Mrs. Pleasant Jane (Temple) Burk in 1853. They were the parents of 1 daughter. Archibald died on 9 April 1859. Pleasant survived him. She died 29 Jan 1876.

1829: BIRTH of DAUGHTER, ELIZABETH GUTHRIE & DEATH of WIFE, ELIZABETH LEMLEY GUTHRIE
The youngest child of Archibald & Elizabeth was named after her mother. Elizabeth was born on 5 March 1829, the same day recorded for her mother's death, apparently of childbirth complications. She married James R. Bradford, but died at the young age of 16 on 11 May 1845. Unknown if there were any children from this union.

1830: CENSUS of WHITELEY, GREENE, PENNSYLVANIA, USA
ARCHIBALD GUTHERY HOUSEHOLD: 1M 50-59, 1M 20-29, 1F 15-19, 2M 10-14, 2M & 1F 5-9, 1M&1F <5.

1831-1835: MARRIAGE of ARCHIBALD GUTHERY & MRS MARY SCOTT (NEE ROSEBERRY)
The marriage apparently occurred sometime after the 1830 census as there is no woman of the appropriate age range to be Mary living within the household.

1836: BIRTH of DAUGHTER, MARY JANE GUTHRIE
Mary Jane was born on 23 September 1836. She married George Remley on 9 December 1854.
