THE HIGHLIGHTS:

1822: BIRTH of JAMES GUTHRIE
James was born in Monongalia County, Virginia. His father 'Robert Gutry', along with Samuel Sapp, was summoned to court on 8 April 1822 to testify on behalf of Benjamin Sapp, so that places his family within Monongalia County within 1 month of James' birth. During James' lifetime he worked as a farmer, surveyor, Methodist minister, and served in the state legislature from 1869-1870. (Source: Hardesty's History of WV)

1828: EMIGRATION to TYLER COUNTY, VIRGINIA
