THE HIGHLIGHTS:

1867: BIRTH of WILLIAM RUFUS GUTHRIE

William Rufus Guthrie aka "Will" was born in Paris, Henry County, Tennessee on 5 January 1867. He was the 5th child of William Francis Guthrie & Esther Jane Lemonds and their 2nd son.

1870: CENSUS of DISTRICT 4, HENRY, TENNESSEE, USA

GUTHRIE HOUSEHOLD: W.F. Guthrie 43 mw farmer 1000 TN; A.J. 37 fw TN; A. fw 10 @ school TN; J. 9 mw @ sch TN; M.E. 7 fw @ sch TN; T.? 5 fw TN; N.C. 11/12 fw TN; A.E. Lemmonds 19 fw TN; W.R. (Lemmonds? or Guthrie?) 3 mw TN. (Possibly out of order.)

The 1870 census is a bit confusing because William Rufus is listed out of order and beneath A. E. Lemmonds making it appear that he is W.R. Lemmonds rather than W.R. Guthrie. His direct descendant, Larry Lee Guthrie, Sr, most definitely has Guthrie DNA, so there is no doubt that William Rufus belongs to the Guthrie part of this household.

1874: BIRTH of MARY ANN WALKER

Mary Ann Walker aka "Marie/Marrie" was born to John Berul Walker & Tabitha Ann McFadden in Henry County, Tennessee on 26 August 1874.

1897-1898: BIRTH & DEATH of DAUGHTER, EVA MAE GUTHRIE

Will and Mary welcomed their first child into the world on 5 November 1887, but little Eva Mae Guthrie died before her first birthday of unknown causes on 23 September 1898.

1899: BIRTH of DAUGHTER, DOLLIE LEE GUTHRIE

Dollie Lee Guthrie was born in Paris or Puryear, Henry, Tennessee on 25 April 1899. She was enumerated with her parents in District 4 in 1900 and in Puryear in 1910. She married at the age of 17 on 6 Jan 1917 to Herbert Crudup "Crude" Williamson, a son of Gus Williamson & Caroline Hinchey, also of Henry County. They had at least 3 children: Annie Williamson, Christine Williamson, and Lowell Williamson. Crude was a farmer. They were in Henry County in 1920. In 1924 Crude and Dollie were listed in the Chattanooga City Directory, but they were again in Henry County by 1835. Crude died in Paris, Henry, Tennessee on 8 September 1988 at the age of 90. Herbert Crude Guthrie is buried at Shady Grove Cemetery in Paris, Henry, Tennessee. The Find-a-Grave memorial page lists him with a spouse by the name of Veltman LaVella (Kirk) Williamson (1926-2002), their marriage taking place per the tombstone inscription on 30 Dec 1953. Dollie survived him, so I must assume that there was a divorce sometime between 1940-1953. I am also guessing that Dollie had relatives in Florida. She died on Marco Island, Collier, Florida on 9 Feb 1990. She is buried at Jones Chapel Cemetery.

1908: BIRTH of SON, WILLIAM CLARENCE GUTHRIE

The father of DNA Project Participant Larry Lee Guthrie Sr was born on 5 May 1908 in Puryear, Henry County, Tennessee. On 30 May 1937 he married Rosa Velt Greene. Within three years they had moved to Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. During the 1940 census Clarence and Rosa were living with her brother-in-law's family where Clarence was again listed as a waiter. They had 3 sons.
