1861: BIRTH of SON, JOHN FRANKLIN GUTHRIE

John Franklin Guthrie was born on 21 April 1861. He married at the age of 19 to Miss T.P. Collins (L.E. Perthana 'Tennie' Collins) on 24 Oct 1880. They had two sons, William Penn Guthrie and Robert Wesley Guthrie prior to his death on 7 December 1886. Due to the timing of their children's births in 1881 and 1884 and John's death in 1886, there is no census record of the whole family. In 1900, the widowed Tennie E Guthrie, 33, is living in the household of her parents, William B & Fannie Collins, along with her two sons Will P Guthrie 17, and Robert W Guthrie 16. We do not have any descendants from John & Tennie's line in the DNA Project at this time.

LRG lists a slightly different picture for this family. See page 200. He lists John's wife as Thelma Collins. A third son is also included for this couple named John Guthrie whose DOB is given as 4 Feb 1888. Not only is this boy not listed with Tennie, Will and Robert in the 1900 census, but the DOB is 14 months after John's DOD.

1863: BIRTH of DAUGHTER, MOLLIE ELEANOR GUTHRIE

The third of William & Esther's children, Mollie Eleanor Guthrie was born on 26 March 1863. She was enumerated with the family in 1870 and 1880. On 11 January 1881 she married James R Aycock. The Jennings-Secoy Tree (Ancestry.com) lists James and Mollie with two children: Eula, born 1882, and James, born 1884.

Note that LRG, p.199 erroneously reports their marriage date as 13 Jan 1880. He also reports her DOD as being 28 January 1884, unless that is the DOD of her husband James Aycock.

Mollie actually survived her first husband by 60 years. She remarried on 5 November 1895 to Thomas P. Snow, a widower. This was his 3rd marriage. He did not long survive it for Mollie was listed as a widow again in the 1900 census. There were no children born to her marriage with snow. The James L Snow listed as her son in the 1900 census was born in 1884, indicating that he is her son from her marriage to James Aycock. Mollie did not remarry a 3rd time even though she was only in her 30s at the time of Thomas Snow's death.

Mollie's Certificate of Death is recorded with a DOD of 25 December 1948 @ 2:00am with a name of "Mollie E. Snow". Parents are listed as William F Guthrie and Esther Jane Lemonds with details reported by her daughter Mrs Eula Jackson. Mollie had been ill for 16 days and was a patient at Western State Hospital near Bolivar in Hardeman County, TN. Her COD was cerebral arteriosclerosis. Mollie was 85 years 8 monts and 29 days old at her death. Her home address was in Paris, Henry, TN.
